Welcome to the Neal’s Yard blog!

Neal’s Yard wallGreat, you’ve found us!

Whether you’ve been to the real place or not, this is Neal’s Yard’s virtual home where, in the spirit in which the Yard was created, ideas can flourish and all are invited to participate in its development.

It’s still in its early stages – as you can see! – but a few things we’ve got in the pipeline include:

  • memories and archive pictures of the yard in its early days
  • details of current and upcoming activities
  • pictures of the famous ‘quote board’ and poetry board and a competition for new quotes to feature on it
  • updates on nature spotted and people seen in the yard

What we really want to know, though, is what you’d like to see here and in the yard itself. We want to hear your ideas and comments so let us know what you think.

  1. “what is all this juice & joy!”, these orange walls, these window boxes, in the belly of the beast, in the heart of this scunky grebby scuzzy grunge of a city of miracles, this camellia, this crab apple, these colours – surely a wonderful wise witch of a woman presides over this place, maybe that’s a garden poking out over there, among the bright cafes & the shops which aren’t as yet – though the Monster Big Chain is growing that way – which are still able to refrain from being so mediocre, beside the mural of tomatoes & glasshouses & plums & sunflowers, the convex concaving mirror – so how big is your body? – & the magnetic poetry board which despite the clues like “spirit” or “soul” always ends up being rude….note – not much mention of people, well, you can find some solitude & spaces among the hustle & bustle, note – also visit Phoenix Garden, Brahma Kumaris meditation, the Tea House, the Oxfam Bookshop on Bloomsbury Street, all these seeds of something more refreshing than the banality of merely shopping (& there’s also the Peace Meditation…….) which reminds me, words are only words, Enough!

  2. A refreshing place with heart and soul.
Such a beautiful ethos, reminding us that all is not lost in the concrete jungle!
Thankyou for being a good example in spite of the challenges!
    With love

  3. Yo, now I can get that Neal’s Yard vibe from the other side of the world! Lovely 🙂

It’s National Poetry Day and I’m celebrating it on my blog with some of the poetry I’ve collected from Neal’s Yard over the last few years. There’ll be poems from this summer up later in the day. Click me!
